2 women arrested with drugs, poppy seeds

Imphal, March 05 2023:
A joint team of CDO Kakching and Pallel PS which included women personnel of CDO Kakching under the supervision of ASP (LO) Kakching Augustine Jangminthang Khongsai arrested two women along with 6.786 kg of WY tablets, 38 grams of opium and 21.77 kg of poppy seeds from a pan shop located at Khudei Khunou Part 2, Chandel district on Sunday.
A police source said that the joint team was carrying out surveillance and patrol in the neighbouring areas of Pallel after receiving information about illicit drug trafficking.
After receiving further information on the location of the contraband items, the police team rushed to a pan shop at Khudei Khunou part 2 and carried out search operation along with some local residents as civilian witnesses.
During the search, police found a brown colour lady's handbag under a pillow inside the shop.
Two small bundles of plastic were found inside the bag, which turned out to be WY tablets packed in 18 small packets.
Police also found a Khaini container with suspected opium inside the bag.
Two suspected women were examined on the spot and they confessed before the civilian witnesses that they are owners of the contraband items.
They disclosed their identities as JB Shangam (29), wife of Ashok Lamkang of Vitu village, and NL Shangwar alias Thangsang Anal (29), daughter of Nungsring of Chakpikarong, Chandel district both presently staying in a rented room at P Khudei Khunou Part II.
Further, one plastic bag black in colour and another plastic bag/sack containing suspected poppy seeds were recovered from the rented house on the disclosure of JB Shangam.
Police also seized one mobile phone along with a Jio SIM card on production by NL Shangwar Thangsang Anal.
The two individuals were arrested after observing formalities at 3:40 pm & 3:45 pm respectively.
The two along With the seized contraband items have been handed over to Chandel police station for further legal action.
