Statue of Maharaja Gambhir Singh unveiled

A statue of Maharaja Gambhir Singh was unveiled at Awapali Khubham in Kamranga village, Cachar district, Assam on the occasion of his 235th birth anniversary observance held on Sunday.
Awapali Khubham Ningshing Lup (AKNL) and Coordination Committee of Awapali Khubham Ningshing Lup jointly organised the observance.
AKNL president Saikhom Manimohan, Lakhipur MLA Kaushik Rai, Assam state MDC chairperson Reena Singha, UCM Consultative Committee member Khomdram Ratan, UPD advisor L Jadumani, UCM vice-president YK Dhiren, UPF president N Rupachandra, NIPCO president O Premjit, UCM secretary general W Second, AMKIL president L Nganbi, AMTCAL president Y Momon Leima, social worker from Jiribam N Budhachandra, social worker from Cachar Sribar L Bidyapati, AMMYF chief advisor Ahmed Choudhar, and AMMPAL president Beni Mishra attended the programme as presidium members.
Those, who spoke at the event, recalled the contribution of Maharaja Gambhir Singh in uniting Manipuris scattered in different parts of the region and reclaiming the sovereignty from Burmese occupation.
They said that he was a national hero of Manipur and the statue was installed in memory of his contribution.
