Education Minister expounds

Education Minister Thounaojam Basanta Kumar has said that good infrastructure and sufficient availability of power and water are the key elements to push for development.
Attending the Tashar Luira Phanit at Tashar in Ukhrul district as chief guest today, Basanta Kumar continued that many elements are needed to make a State or a country developed and amongst them, topmost priority must be given on infrastructure, power and water.
Improving education and health sectors would be easier if there is good infrastructure, sufficient power and water, he added.
He also said that Tashar Village has all the potential for growth.
The high school at the village will be upgraded to higher secondary level, the Education Minister maintained.
On legalising liquor, Basanta Kumar said that every society and civilisation has a history of brewing liquor.
Saying that none should be encouraged to drink alcohol as it is harmful to health, the Minister continued that the Government decided to legalise liquor only to regulate the process of brewing and availability of liquor.
Regulating liquor will also pave the way for the State to earn additional revenue, he added.
MLA Ram Muivah was the guest of honour.
Physique Show, Luira Nite and other cultural items were also held as a part of the festival.
