EGC clarifies, pleas for unconditional release

Maintaining that the people of Moijing have always extended cooperation and supported the police in all its activities, Educational Guide Centre (ECG), Thoubal Moijing has stated that the unwanted incident at Moijing on Friday night was due to a misunderstanding arising out of the inability to recognise the police personnel in civvies.
Addressing media persons on Sunday, ECG president Abdur Razaq Moichingmayum said that the people of Moijing village have never supported people involved in anti-social activities but extending support and cooperation to the police.
However, the incident on Friday night was due to a misunderstanding between the police and the villagers and EGC is extremely sad over the incident, he said.
While recounting the said incident, Abdur Razaq said that some people in civil dress who came in a Maruti Gypsy tried to apprehend one Md Manao alias Jiaur Rahaman (37) s/o Jiaouddin while he along with one Md Sirajuddin alias Apik (43) s/o Md Noor were coming out of the local Masjid after offering prayers.
Md Noor tried to prevent Md Manao from being whisked away by the unknown people consequently leading to a scuffle during.
Hearing the commotion, the locals rushed in to prevent the duo from being taken away by the people.
Later on seeing the arrival of police personnel in uniform the locals realised that the earlier group of people who came in the Gypsy were also police personnel.
However, the police reinforcement barged into houses in Moijing area and began to beat up people including women indiscriminately and caused destruction to private properties apart from firing tear gas canisters, rubber bullets and smoke bombs.
Later the police team arrested 10 people including two who are currently appearing in the class X and XII examinations, he said and enquired as to why the police resorted to such inhuman acts.
While also maintaining that Moijing people will support the police in arresting criminals, the EGC president also appealed to the police to come in proper uniform while carrying out their duties and urged the authorities concerned to release all the 10 individuals arrested without any condition.
