Imphal, March 05 2023:
While calling for stopping certain activities which are contrary to the ethos of Manipuri society during the Yaoshang festival, the armed Nation al Revolutionary Front, Manipur (NRFM) has appealed to local clubs and organisations to prevent playing with colours and water among young boys and girls, seeking donation (Naka Theng) on roads, going around for Holi Pala and organising Thabal Chongba by blocking road.
Apart from appreciating sports and games events held in every locality during Yaoshang festival, the outfit appealed to local clubs and organisations to conduct indigenous games like Kang, tug of war (Ihouri Chingnabi), Yubi Lakpi, Marum Kon-bi, Kei-Yen, Khullokpi, U-Laobi, Phibul Habi, Chafu Ihugaibi and Chourki Phambi.
It also said that outdoor games like football, hockey, cricket and marathon race should be skipped from Yaoshang sports but concentrate on indoor games so that no one suffers from sunstroke.
According to an NRFM statement, the district magistrates concerned as well as local organisations should issue notices to prevent unwanted incidents from happening during the Yaoshang festival.
It also appealed to government employees to enjoy only one day's holiday and attend offices in the remaining four days.
The outfit also urged newspaper houses to publish newspapers daily during the Yaoshang festival.
While declaring drug dealers, poppy cultivators and opium makers as enemies of the people, NRFM said that it had awarded capital punishment to four drug dealers, two each in hills and valley, in recent times and action against such people will continue.
