Workshop on Manipuri Performing Art held
Time to save various performing art forms of the state: N Aruna

Department of Dance and Music, Manipur University inaugurated a two-day workshop on Manipuri Performing Art' at the premises of the department on Wednesday.
Presided over by Department of Dance and Music head Dr P Lilabati, the inaugural function was attended by MU School of Humanities Dean Prof N Aruna as chief guest and School of Social Sciences Dean Prof S Mangi as guest of honour.
Delivering the keynote speech, Prof N Aruna urged the youth and students of the state to take up responsibility for preserving and promoting the priceless performing art forms of Manipur.
Prof S Mangi remarked that per forming art form in a creative product presented to an audience.
He also highlighted the importance of art and culture including performing art forms in shaping the society.
Dr P Lilabati stressed the need for saving the different endangered art forms of the state and further emphasised the need for the youth and students to recognise teachers and seniors who have been working hard to do so.
During the first technical session of the workshop, Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Th Chaotombi and Kala Bhushan A Birababu spoke on the topics of "Dance Choreography", and "Lairik Haiba-Thiba" respectively.
Another technical session will be held on Thursday, wherein Folk Ensemble, Manipur secretary M Rajen Meetei and JNMDA senior artiste A Amusana Devi (Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee) will speak on the topics of "The Details of Pena" and "Manipuri Classical Solo Dance", respectively.
