Student found drowned in Khuga river

Lifeless body of one Haukhanthang, son of Chinlalmuan of Immanuel Road headquarters Veng, Churachandpur was retrieved on Wednesday at about 10.30 am after he got drowned in Khuga river.
Haukhanthang, 13, was a class VIII student of Blue Star Academy, Churachandpur.
Haukhanthang went to Khuga river at about 9.10 am Tuesday with two of his classmates namely Khupsuanmung alias David, son of Thangmuanlal of Khominthang and Lamrinmawia, currently staying at Bethel Home (an orphanage), Hmuia Veng Churachandpur.
It is learnt that the three students bunked class on Tuesday as they failed to attend the school in time and went to Khuga river located just below Canaan locality.
However, their parents were under the impression that they were attending school and remained in peace till Tuesday evening.
At about 9pm on Tuesday, parents began to search for Haukhanthang after he did not return home and later came to know about Haukhanthang's drowning in Khuga river.
A hasty search was conducted late Tuesday night but to no avail.
When search resumed on Wednesday morning with the involvement of philanthropic organisations like HYA, YPA and ZYA members, Haukhanthang's body was found near the place where he fell into the river.
The body was then taken to Saikot playground and then to district hospital for post mortem by Hmar Youth Association (HYA)'s ambulance.
After post mortem examination, the body was taken for performing last rites and buried at local cemetery at about 4 pm .
