Dimapur, May 07 2014:
NSCN-IM has banned all immoral activities including operation of night clubs and brothels in Naga areas.
The NSCN-IM said today that it takes serious note on the moral degradation of the Nagas and on May 2, it decided that all the night clubs and brothels shall be banned with immediate effect.
The Naga public, civil societies and churches are requested to cooperate and involve in helping to eradicate the evil activities which will one day destroy our future, appealed NSCN-IM.
Meanwhile, frequent drive against sex workers in Nagaland commercial hub Dimapur by police and IRB personnel failed to bear any result as number of prostitutes are fast rising in the city.
Last year, a Dimapur daily newspaper had reported that there were about 4000 (four thousand) sex workers in Dimapur alone with 50% of them being local women.
However, an NGO could registered only 870 sex workers since majority of them refused to reveal themselves.
Most of the sex workers are in the age group of 16 to 40 .
According to sources, female college students are also indulging in the business actively.
Otherwise, married women, unmarried women and divorcees usually take the mainstream in business.
Meanwhile, besides the Dimapur district administration, NSCN-IM has been actively carrying out drive against sex workers in Dimapur since last year.
Some sex workers from Assam were apprehended by NSCN-IM and warned them not to repeat such activities in future last year.
Few years ago, Dimapur police frequently conducted vigil operation in Dimapur as young boys and girls on the pretext of going for morning walk used to indulge in immoral activities.
These youths mostly school children used to be seen in the streets of Dimapur as early as 2 am.
These children used to leave homes telling their guardians that they were going for 'morning walk' .
According to the police, youths were rounded up in many places as some of them were caught in compromising positions.
That was few years ago.
