WAD condemns killing of Simran

Woman Action for Development condemned the brutal killing of a 7 years old girl, Simran, d/o Md Doctor, Moijingkhong Manung, Thoubal District, according to Sobita Mangsatabam, Secretary, WAD.
Simaran went missing since May 5, 2014 and was found brutally murdered on the next day.
Despite various efforts by civil society organisations, number of cold-blooded murders, cyber crimes, domestic violence are escalating, she said.
Stating minors from Children Homes are becoming the target of recent murders, she added that underprivileged children are exposed to arms by some insurgent groups which is a violation of child rights and Geneva Convention.
Sobita asserted that in the last four months, around 68 cases of crimes against women and children have been reported.
Citing examples of other cases where arrested convicts have not been charge-sheeted which resulted delay in delivering justice, she said people have lost faith in the judiciary, investigative system.
Lack of coverage by media on various reported cases of crime is also another factor to the rise of crime rate, she said.
