Imphal, May 07 2014:
The road blockade, launched by the locals of Sekmai Nongthonband demanding the State Government to repair the deplorable road leading to Sekmai LPG Bottling Plant, has led to shortage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in the State.
The price of filled LPG cylinder has now skyrocketed in the black market after the distributors have stopped supplying LPG to the public since May 4 .
The locals of Sekmai Nongthonband have been urging the State authorities repeatedly to repair the deplorable road leading to the Bottling Plant, which is not more than one kilometer long.
However, the "apathy" of the State Government has made the situation worse by causing another scarcity for LPG on top of the prevailing water crisis.
Movement of all LPG bullets along the road has stopped.
More than 50 bullets coming from Assam are yet to unload at the Bottling Plant.
Moreover, the filled LPG cylinders could not be transported out from the Bottling Plant owing to this road blockade.
None of the IOC officials were available for comments regarding the issue.
However, a member of the local club of Sekmai Nongthonband said that the agitation would continue until and unless the State Government repairs the road leading to the LPG Bottling Plant.
Meanwhile, the members of Sekmai Nongthonban Youth Club along with MLA of Sekmai A/C Kh Devendra today met Chief Minister Okram Ibobi regarding the issue.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister assured that the road would be repaired within a short time.
He also appealed to the representatives to suspend the road blockade.
But, the representatives of Sekmai Nongthonband Youth Club did not make any commitment to the Chief Minister.
They said that the matter would be discussed in a general body meeting and thereafter, a resolution whether to carry on or suspend the agitation would be taken.
