Chandel, October 10 2015 :
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Chandel District on Saturday allayed fears of dengue outbreak in the district and stated that so far only two cases from Moreh have been confirmed.
CMO Chandel Dr Romy Ngoru in a statement informed that in response to the two confirmed cases from Moreh, the District Malaria Officer, Chandel and District staff of National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme had gone to Moreh and taken up appropriate preventive and control measures like fogging, awareness and elimination of breeding sites.
He said doctors and staff of health services and hospitals of the District have been put the alert for "quick and appropriate response" and poster campaigns have been launched to spread awareness about dengue.
The MCO stated that dengue is spread by a virus and 99.79% of reported dengue cases are cured on treatment.
The virus is spread by a mosquito breed known as Aedes aegypti.
This breed is not commonly found in the district, he said.
Prevention of water collection in and around houses or emptying of water collections in pots, cups, tyres, flower pots, behind fridges, etc eliminates the breeding sites and easily prevents dengue spread, added the CMO.
While stating that fogging is carried out only in areas where dengue has been reported, the CMO urged the public to report to health centres or hospitals if they have been suffering from high fever, severe headache, body pain, joint pain, pain on eye movement, rash/red spots.
