Ukhrul, August 05 2026:
The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has opposed and termed the "indefinite total shutdown" announced by the Working Committee of Kuki CSO Ukhrul (WCKCSO) along the National Highway-202 as "unacceptable and a direct challenge to the absolute rights of the Tangkhul Nagas" .
In a statement, the committee said since the outbreak of conflict on February 7, 2026, the Kukis backed by SoO militants have been laying siege on the National Highway-202 and curtailed free movement along the Imphal-Ukhrul-Kamjong route.
"And, in the name of raising their demands to the Government , the WCKCSO Ukhrul has imposed a blanket blockade against the Tangkhul Nagas-who are the real owners of the ancestral land.
This act is plainly a brazen and insolent behaviour on the part of the migrant Kukis," it said.
It accused the Kuki CSOs of attempting to shift blame to the Tangkhul Nagas, whose members including men, women and children have been abducted, tortured and killed by Kuki militants.
While imposing total shutdown, "the Kuki CSOs has the audacity of doling out special permission for safe passage to select Government agencies." Is the State of Manipur now being run by "migrant Kukis?" The Khemchand-led Government must respond, it said.
