Imphal, August 05 2026:
Even though 441 loaded vehicles arrived Imphal today, 140 were allegedly dispatched by the police without any security escort on the National Highway-37, said sources.
Taking serious note of the incident, Transporters' and Drivers' Council has meanwhile urged the State police not to repeat such incidents in the future, citing the risks involved in dispatching vehicles without security escorts.
Loaded trucks and tankers on the Imphal-Jiribam road are moved strictly under security escorts.
Notably, all the 441 vehicles that reached Imphal today were earlier stuck at several places along the highway.
Of the 441 vehicles, 140 were sent without escort by the Noney police saying there were ROPs (road opening parties) ahead, said sources.
Later, the remaining 301 vehicles were escorted to Imphal by two convoys of security personnel.
While all the vehicles fortunately reached Imphal safely, it was very risky for the police to send them without any security escort, TDC president Hijam Ranjit said.
The vehicles arrived at Imphal passing several sensitive and vulnerable stretches.
Who will bear the responsibility if anything had happened to any of the vehicles? Ranjit asked.
