Imphal, October 10 2015 :
In a bizarre incident, residents of Sega Road Thouda Bhabok Leikai were provided potable water through an electric post on Saturday in what could be described as a "blessing by default" .
Some residents discovered that a hole in the lower portion of an electric post erected recently to provide pre-paid power to local consumers was suddenly spurting out water just like the long missed common tap water.
When inquired, it was found out there was a water pipe running under the post from the tank tower of Keishampat under Public Health Engineering Department (PHED).
|
As the pipe burst underneath the post, the water's only escape route was the hollow metal electric post.
The hole just four feet above the foundation of the post was where the water gushed out for nearly an hour from 1 pm till 2 pm.
And the prospective locals made the best use of the situation by collecting the potable water for domestic consumption.
A source said that all the water pipes from Keishampat to Malom were removed during the Tiddim Road expansion and they were newly installed recently.
People have been getting water from sources supplied through these pipes since the last two weeks.
One woman who stored water from the electric post said that dirty water came out first from the electric post but clean water followed after sometime.
Shocked over the incident, one local sarcastically said that Manipur Government has become responsive as it has started supplying water through electric posts though it has failed to supply electric through the same means.
He however said that PHED and Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited should immediately take note of such incident and look into the matter as it could pose grave danger to the public.
