Imphal, October 10 2015 :
The Manipur People's Party (MPP) has questioned why the Manipur Bhavan constructed at Ulubari in Guwahati is still not functioning properly despite repeated assurances from the Govt in the Assembly that the Bhawan would be made functional soon.
In a statement, MPP point-ed out that the plot for Manipur Bhawan was acquired at the cost of Rs 1,21,43,915 at Ulubari in Guwahati during the MSCP Govt in the State under the Chief Ministership of (L) W Nipamacha in 2001.Subsequently, Rs 14.66 crore was sanctioned for the construction of the Bhavan.
Replying to a question raised by opposition MLAs to Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar during the State Assembly session in July 2012, the Govt assured that the Bhavan at Guwahati would be inaugurated the following month.
Again, during the Assembly session in June 2013, the CM assured to facilitate inauguration of Manipur Bhavan at Guwahati at the earliest.
As such, it is pertinent to question why the Bhavan is still not completed despite the repeated assurances, the MPP said and demanded the Govt to clarify the same to the people of the State.
The MPP also questioned why the contractor concerned should go scot free.
The party asked the State Govt to expedite the construction and hand it over to the public at the earliest.
