Trucks stranded at Jiri as only POL tankers move

Imphal, August 04 2026: While over 380 loaded goods trucks are stranded at Jiribam, a security convoy left the district for Imphal escorting only POL tankers today.

While the goods carrying trucks had been waiting for security escorts at Jiribam for days, their exclusion today, despite an order from the police headquarters to include them in the convoy, has outraged the truckers, said sources.

Notably, ADG IK Muivah had yesterday asked the IG CRPF to provide two security convoys--one for bringing in loaded trucks and POL tankers from Jiribam to Imphal, and one for escorting empty trucks and POL tankers from Imphal to Jiribam.

The convoy from Jiribam was supposed to escort 150 vehicles including trucks, FCI vehicles and POL tankers.

However, the convoy left Jiribam for Imphal this morning at 6.20 escorting only POL tankers.

The POL tankers include 59 LPG tankers, 16 petrol tankers, 49 diesel tankers, 17 tankers carrying both petrol and diesel, 2 aviation fuel tankers, 4 kerosene tankers, one chemical tanker and one empty tanker.

Following the departure of the convoy escorting POL tankers, as many as 382 trucks and 20 fuel tankers are currently left stranded at Jiribam awaiting availability of the next security convoy.

The truckers at Jiribam have meanwhile expressed their dissatisfaction and identified inadequate arrangement of security convoys and dilapidated conditions of the highway as the reasons for them being stranded at Jiribam for days.

They also pointed out possible lapses in coordination between the Manipur Police and the CPRF regarding the arrangement of security escorts, urging the authorities concerned of the Govt to implement necessary measures to address the issue.

Notably, sources said there was also an alleged attempt to escort only POL tankers (empty) from Imphal today.

However, after a brief commotion, 24 empty trucks were later included in the convoy.
