Imphal, December 07 2021:
While terming the statement given by union home minister Amit Shah on Nagaland firing in the parliament as unacceptable and ignorant remark, All India Mahila Congress Committee (AIMCC) secretary Lhinkim S Haokip has demanded the government to repeal AFSPA from the entire northeast region.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Lhinkim Haokip said that Amit Shah's statement shows arrogance and irresponsibility as he did not mention anything about investigating the incident and providing compensation to the civilian victims.
His remarks show the BJP government's outlook towards the people of northeast.
She also claimed the incident as an outcome of the imposition of AFSPA in the northeast states and reiterated the demand to repeal AFSPA from the region immediately.
The incident has shocked, the whole nation and political leaders from both opposition and ruling parties expressed strong condemnations against the incident.
Some of the northeast states' chief ministers also raised strong condemnation against the incident and demanded repeal of AFSPA.
The Nagaland state cabinet had passed a resolution to repeal AFSPA.
However, Manipur chief minister N Biren is remaining silent over the matter.
He has not expressed a single word over the Mon incident let alone raising the demand for repealing AFSPA, she said.
She then questioned the reason for the government's inability to remove AFSPA from the state despite the repeated claims of CM Biren of bringing peace and normalcy in the state and improving law and order situation by his government.
It shows the double standard and lack of commitment of chief minister N Biren, she said.
She also demanded the government to pass a cabinet resolution for removing AFSPA from the state at the earliest.
