All new Covid cases are Omicron: Dr Rajo

In the wake of sharp increase in fresh Covid-19 positive cases in the state in the past few days, the Health Department has issued instructions for resuming screening of all individuals entering the state at all the entry points.
Chief medical officers of all districts have also been alerted on the prevailing situation of Covid-19, said Health Services director Dr K Rajo on Wednesday.
Speaking to The People's Chronicle over the phone, Dr Rajo informed that fresh cases of Covid-19 among the general population are increasing in the past few days and this situation should not be taken lightly.
Consequently, the department has issued relevant instructions to all officials concerned for taking up necessary measures to prevent another wave of the pandemic.
RIMS and JNIMS as well as district hospitals have been instructed to keep beds reserved for Covid-19 .
So far, none of the active cases are showing any serious symptoms and maximum of them are staying in home isolation.
They are given relevant instructions for following protocols so as to prevent transmission to other family members.
There are two Covid patients at Shija Hospital but they are not in any serious condition, he said.
The director also informed that all the new cases are of Omicron variants showing mild symptoms.
Despite having no seriously ill patients, it is important to take up all necessary precautions since Covid cases are on the rise in 110 countries.
Apart from other measures, the department will start awareness activities to encourage the public to get their remaining doses of Covid vaccines.
Weekly media briefings will also resume from Friday onwards, Dr Rajo said.
In view of the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the state in last few days, Chief Medical Officers of the districts concerned have been instructed to start screening for COVID-19 for all persons entering Manipur at the point of entry, irrespective of place of origin.
Asking the CMOs to strictly enforce the preventive measures, a notification issued by Dr Rajo said surveillance should be conducted with all intensity the entry points of Churachandpur, Behiang, Sinzawl, Tengnoupal Moreh Gate No 1, 2 & ICP, Kamjong Nambisha, Senapati-Mao Gate, Jiribam Gate and Bir Tikendrajit International Airport.
Further, all army/CRPF units have also been instructed to arrange for COVID-19 testing of their personnel entering the state, the director added.
