New Year begins with higher TPR, 16 new cases, one death

With Omicron variant of Covid-19 set to trigger the third wave of the pandemic, year 2022 began with higher daily test positivity rate as the first two days of the New Year reported above 2 per cent TPR.
Government bulletins on Sunday reported 16 new positive cases of Covid-19 out of 661 samples tested, registering a positivity rate of 2.42 per cent whereas Saturday reported 19 new cases out of 909 samples tested registering a positivity rate of 2.09 per cent.
Saturday did not report any death case while one death case was reported on Sunday which took the number of fatalities to 2003 .
The victim was an unvaccinated resident of Bishnupur district.
With the discharge of seven patients from home isolation (1), RIMS (1), JNIMS (1) and CCCs (4) in the last 24 hours, the active caseload rose to 215 out of which 25 (11.63 per cent) are in home isolation.
There is no updated information on bed availability in hospitals and Covid Care Centres, Out of the 16 districts, only six reported fresh Covid cases on Sunday.
So far, the state has recorded 96,423 positive cases and 1629 fatalities since the beginning of the second wave of the pandemic.
The current month has reported 35 new positive cases and one fatality while 100 new cases and two fatalities were added in the last seven days.
According to official reports, all the 16 fresh cases (12 male & 4 female) are from among the general population and their samples were confirmed at RIMS (1), JNIMS (3) and other testing centres (12) .
The positive cases are from Imphal East (3), Imphal West (7), Thoubal (2), Bishnupur (1), Kakching (2) and Tengnoupal (1) .
The cumulative number of positive cases has reached 1,25,823 (general population - 1,21,383 and CAPF personnel 4,440).Number of recovered cases is 1,23,605 (general population -1,19,177 and CAPF personnel - 4,428) and number of active cases is 215 (general population - 208 and CAPF personnel - 7) .
The recovery rate is 98.24 per cent.
A total of 184 D-type and 91 B-type Oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health facilities in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, only 3 vaccine doses were administered on Saturday and it took the cumulative number of vaccinated people to 13,25,023 out of which 9,91,082 have been fully vaccinated.
As per data maintained by The People's Chronicle based on IDSP and CCR reports, number of total cases in different districts are Imphal West (44,172), Imphal East (27,961), Thoubal (9502), Churachandpur (10,194), Kangpokpi (2793), Tamenglong (3284), Bishnupur (9244), Senapati (2249), Ukhrul (3000), Kakching (6454), Chandel (2367), Noney (1076), Tengnoupal (1079), Jiribam (1029), Kamjong (955) and Pherzawl (464).Fatality counts in different districts are Imphal West (672), Imphal East (479), Thoubal (179), Churachandpur (163), Kangpokpi (62), Tamenglong (14), Bishnupur (195), Senapati (10), Ukhrul (44), Kakching (115), Chandel (41), Noney (4), Tengnoupal (13), Jiribam (7), Kamjong (5) and Pherzawl (0) .
Data analysed by this daily shows that the rate of infection remains 40,549 confirmed cases per million population (based on projected population of 31,03,000 as per NCP report) against the national average of 24,915 CPM.
Test rate has improved to 4,71,336 tests per million population against the national average of 4,85,645 TPM.
Case fatality rate stands at 1.59 per cent.
In the past 24 hours, only 661 samples were tested and the single day positivity rate was 2.42 per cent per cent while the cumulative positivity came down to 8.60 per cent.
