Imphal, March 11 2022:
After the BJP cruised to a comfortable victory by winning 32 seats in the just concluded 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election, the central leaders of the party have reportedly issued instructions for forming the new government in the state by March 16 .
On Friday, the central leaders of the party instructed the state unit to go ahead with relevant process for forming the new government but did not specify who the new Chief Minister of the state would be.
However, chances of caretaker CM N Biren reappointed to the post is quite high owing to the party getting absolute majority in the election, a source conveyed.
Manipur Election in-charge Sambit Patra, who had been stationing in the state till the vote counting day, left for Delhi with the election results.
He would be returning to the state soon along with BJP observer Union ministers Pratima Bhoumik and Bhupender Yadav to oversee formation of the new state government.
After their arrival, the union ministerial team would meet the winning BJP MLAs to select the legislature leader of the party and decide on who will be the Chief Minister, the source added.
Meanwhile, sources conveyed that as of now, there is no divided camp among the MLAs on the matter of the state's new Chief Minister, with all ready to accept the candidate appointed by the central leaders.
On the other hand, it has been reported that although the cabinet portfolios have not been discussed, it is speculated that as all 3 BJP women candidates have won the election, at least one of them would be given a ministerial berth.
