Mother-child abductor jailed

The Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Imphal East has sent one Mevada Nileshbhai (24) son of Dudabhai of Moti Virava Nani Virva in Gujarat, who was accused of abducting a mother and her child in February this year, to 15 days in judicial custody.
On Friday, a team of Women PS Imphal East produced Nileshbhai before the court of JMFC.
According to a report submitted by the PS, one Ongam Haokip (35) of K Orphanage village in Kanglatongbi, but presently residing at New Lambulane filed a missing complaint to the Women PS on February 23, stating that his wife Agatha Suntak Vaiphei (38) and their 5-year-old daughter had been abducted by unknown person(s) on February 21 around 9.30 am.
Based on the complaint, the PS registered a case and conducted raids at suspected locations.
During the course of the investigation, a mobile phone number used in the abduction of the mother and child was traced to a location in Mangaluru.
As such, a police team went to Mangaluru PS on March 4 and conducted raid at the location with the help of the latter, wherein the accused was arrested from near Taj Residency Falnir in Mangaluru city.
The joint team also rescued the mother-child duo successfully.
Nileshbhai was then produced before Mangaluru JMFC-II Court and after receiving a transit Warrant, was brought to Imphal and produced before JMIC Imphal East Court, which remanded him to 6 days in police custody.
During the hearing of the case on Friday, after listening to the report of the IO, the Court remanded Nileshbhai to 15 days in judicial custody for further interrogation.
