State Handloom Expo kicks off

The two week-long State Handloom Expo 2021-22 launched under National Handloom Development Programme was kicked off today at Urban Haat located at Nilakuthi, Imphal East.
It may be noted that the expo was organised by Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans CS Ltd under the supervision of Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles.
Giving the keynote address, the chief guest of the programme Mangsatabam Memi, National Awardee stated that handlooms play a big role in representing the state and its unique identity on top of contributing to the economy.
She further stressed on the need for handloom weavers of the State to produce more products that are appealing to the people and also added that the people in turn need to encourage these weavers.
The programme was presided by A Ronika, president Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans CS Ltd while Nivipati Patel, Technical Superintendent (Processing), Weaver Service Center and Ch Tombi, Project Manager (Handloom), District Handloom and Textiles were the guests of honour.
Around 60 stalls participated in the expo where weavers across the State displayed their handloom products.
