The Judicial Magistrate First Class Imphal East today remanded one non local to judicial custody till March 25 on the charge of abducting a woman and her minor daughter from New Lambulane on February 21 .
Accused Mevada Nileshbhai (24), S/o Dudabhai of Moti Virava Nani Virva, Gujarat was arrested by a team of Imphal East women police with assistance from Mangaluru police from a place near Taj Residency at Mangalore, Karnataka on March 4 and brought to Imphal along with the victims on March 6 .
He was today produced before the Court after the completion of police custody remand along with a prayer for judicial custody.
The IO of the case submitted that the husband of the woman lodged a complaint on February 23, claiming that his wife and minor daughter were abducted on February 21 at around 9 am .
The complainant also mentioned that his wife was offered an overseas job by the man.
Raids were carried out at several suspected hideouts but to no avail, the IO said.
Saying that they received inputs about the whereabouts of the accused and the victims on March 2, the IO continued that the Imphal East women police team went to Mangalore on March 3 and sought assistance from Mangaluru police to rescue the victims.
The accused was arrested from a place near Taj Residency at Mangalore on March 4 .
The IO went on to state that the victim woman met the accused in May 2021 through an online game, following which the accused came to Imphal on February 19 .
It is further submitted that the accused took complete control of the victim's laptop, social media and payment account and barred her from calling anyone.
The IO also claimed that the accused sexually assaulted the woman.
Reportedly, the accused has accepted the charges levelled against him.
The accused further disclosed that he was planning to take the woman and her daughter to a foreign country.
The Court on perusal of the case record and after hearing the submission of the IO remanded the accused to judicial custody till March 25 .
