Imphal, March 11 2022:
Refusing to belief the number of votes received by the party's candidate, the Election Management Committee of BJP Thangmeiband Mandal has raised suspicion that the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) used in the constituency might have been tampered with.
Addressing a press meet at the Mandal's office in Thangmeiband Hijam Leikai here on Friday, Committee convenor Konsam Tijendra stated that there is specific number of votes which BJP is supposed to get from a booth.
However, the votes polled in the booths is drastically different from the number calculated during the assessment of the party's candidate, which raises the suspicion that the EVMs could have been tampered.
Tijendra recounted that in the 2017 elections, BJP lost by 157 votes and in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP led by 929 votes.
He continued: "Although the party's election agent requested the CEO Manipur to provide the CCTV footage after the EVMs was stored on February 28 till March 9, no response has been given till date.
During the entire time the EVMs were in the strong room, the lights were riot on, thereby making the whole thing more suspicious.
"There has been no precedent of setting up a strong room in DM College of Teacher Education campus or for that matter, the counting of vote.
Thus, as it was done for the first time, it is quite fishy.
Senior politician O Joy had also commented on the same through the media," he added.
Informing that Thangmeiband Mandal will convene a meeting and write to the party's office to take disciplinary action against state level leaders who were involved in anti-party activities; Tijendra further urged all concerned not to indude any other political party in the formation of the government, considering the fact that BJP got absolute majority in the election.
