Tamenglong, April 13 2022:
The All Tousem Student Union (ATSU) has expressed its strong opposition and condemned the people responsible for conducting the signature campaign of landowners under the Tousem Sub-Division demanding compensation.
In a release, ATSU informed that the people and landowners had invited the Government to construct the Tamenglong-Mahur (NH-137) road by promising and assuring the Government to give land and standing property free of cost.
Stating that the road construction has begun and is in good progress, the student union on behalf of the people of Tamenglong district in general and Tousem Sub-Division in particular expressed its gratitude to the present Government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Chief Minister of Manipur, N Biren Singh.
"Since independence, people of Tousem Sub-Division have lived as a neglected population and have been deprived of proper roads for many decades.
People of Tousem Sub-Division have endured immense suffering and hardships due to lack of connectivity.
Hence, the people and land owners in the hope of having a better connectivity and a lifeline for the sub-division have given their full consent and sacrificed their land and standing property free of cost willingly and unanimously for construction of Tamenglong-Mahur road", it added.
ATSU also extended its full support and endorsed the stand of the people and land owners of Tousem while adding that the union cannot allow few people with vested interest to manipulate innocent land owners to append their signatures for compensation by giving false narrative and incorrect information.
The union appealed to all landowners to not fall in the trap and give-in to the manufactured lies and empty promises of people with vested interest with regards to the compensation matter of Tamenglong-Mahur road.
"It is to remind all landowners that your selfish action of retracting your given commitment and NOCs for giving land and standing property on zero compensation to the Government for Tamenglong-Mahur road will amount to breach of agreement, trust and confidence.
This may have a ripple effect and serious implications in future.
It may even lead to halting of the ongoing road construction and to derailment of the entire project itself", it added.
ATSU further urged all CSOs, leaders and citizens of Tousem Sub-Division to stand firm in unity for the collective future.
