Imphal, April 13 2022:
All Tousem Students' Union (ATSU) has strongly opposed and condemned one Zebedee Panmei and his associates for carrying out signature campaign of land owners affected by Tamenglong-Mahur road (NH-137) under Tousem subdivision for demanding compensation discretely.
ATSU also alleged that the campaign is being initiated under the leadership of a former MLA from Tamenglong AC.
In a release, ATSU president Akum Chawang stated that people and landowners had invited the government for constructing the Tamenglong-Mahur road with the assurance to provide land and standing property free of cost.
Construction of the said road has begun and is making good progress.
Since independence, people of Tousem sub-division were deprived of proper road.
Hence, with the hope of having a better connectivity and a lifeline for Tousem sub division the people welcomed the road project and sacrificed their land and standing property free of cost.
While endorsing and supporting the stand of the people and land owners of Tousem, ATSU, however, asserted that it would fiercely oppose any attempt by people with vested interests led by an outsider to manipulate innocent land owners of Tousem to append their signatures for demanding compensation by giving false narrative and incorrect information.
Further, the Union appealed to all landowners not to fall into the trap and give-in to the manufactured lies and empty promises with regards to compensation matter for the construction of Tamenglong-Mahur road.
The Union reminded all landowners that their selfish action of retracting their given commitment and NOCs for parting with land and standing property at zero compensation to the government for Tamenglong-Mahur road will amount to breach of agreement, trust and confidence.
This may have ripple effect and serious implications in future.
It may even lead to halting of the on-going road construction and may in the process lead to derailment of the entire project itself, it cautioned.
Furthermore, ATSU appealed to all compensation experts concerned to avoid unnecessary meddling into the affairs Tousem sub-division and on going Tamenglong-Mahur road construction project.
