Ukhrul, April 13 2022:
Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) is all set to renew its relationship with the state government by lifting a three-month long social boycott of chief minister N Biren.
"We decided to lift the social boycott because we have reached an understanding with him (CM Biren) and we are also looking forward to meeting him very shortly," TKS president Shimri Raising told The People's Chronicle over the phone on Wednesday.
Raising said that the main motivation behind the symbolic move was to renew the student union's relationship with the state government.
"As the old government is gone and a new one has come, we want to shed all the past differences and start a fresh relationship with the new government," he said.
"With this, it is also our earnest appeal to the new government to give a proper attention to the needs of the long-neglected hill districts," Raising said.
Last December, the district's apex student body imposed a boycott of the chief minister in denunciation of what it termed as anti-tribal policies of the state government.
Meanwhile, in a press statement, TKS said that it "revoked the resolutions of December 19 last year, thereby lifting the subsisting social boycott" .
The statement continued that "Saklong hopes the incumbent government would adopt inclusive development policy in all respects with special focus on the long-neglected hill areas".
The student body also congratulated N Biren for his successive, second tenure as chief minister of the state.
