Chrism Mass / Priesthood day celebrated

The Archdiocese of Imphal celebrated the Chrism Mass cum Priesthood day at St Joseph's Cathedral, Mantripukhri, yesterday.
About 160 priests and more than 250 religious nuns along with a big gathering of the laity participated in the solemn spiritual event.
Members of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council (APC), All Manipur Catholic Union (AMCU), Manipur Catholic Women Organization (MCWO), Manipur Catholic Youth Organization (MCYO) and others were present in support of the Presbyterium under the leadership of the Archbishop.
Chrism Mass is a solemn liturgical ceremony of the Eucharist observed all over the world every year during the holy week before the solemnity of Easter.
The Chrism Mass also celebrates the institution of Priesthood by Jesus at the 'Last Supper'.
In it the priests of the diocese come around the Bishop as a sign of unity.

The day began with a joint recollection and approaching the Sacrament of Confession for the Priests and religious working in the Archdiocese of Imphal.
In the evening the Chrism Mass was celebrated from 6 pm onwards.
On this special occasion, Rev Dominic Lumon, the Archbishop of Imphal led the day's proceedings and exhorted the priests to be faithful to their dedication as priests and to serve the people of Manipur unreservedly.
Rev Dominic Lumon congratulated all the priests for their untiring dedicated service.
The Archbishop also urged the people to support and pray for the priests and to forgive the priests if they have failed in any way in their duties.
It may be mentioned that the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Imphal is spread across the whole State in 46 Parishes, 8 mission centres, most of which are in the remotest corners of the State.
Most of the centres have schools attached and are endeavoring to provide education and other services to the people of the area irrespective of creed, ethnicity or gender, etc.
