One stabbed to death

Imphal, August 26 2019:
A 37 year old man, identified as Kangabam Nanao of Langthabal Mantrikhong Awang Leikai was stabbed to death by one Arambam Leeman (35) from the same locality at around noon today.
According to a source and family members of the deceased, the incident occurred at around 11.30 am today when the accused Arambam Leeman (35) s/o Santabi of Langthabal Mantrikhong Awang Leikai came to the residence of the deceased Kangabam Nanao alias Romesh (37) s/o Chaurjit of the same locality and began assaulting Nanao's mother (Pishak) without any reason.
Nanao and his younger brother Naocha intervened and brought the situation under control and finally Leeman was taken home by the younger brother of the deceased.
It was observed that Pishak had sustained some injuries on her right hand and other parts of her body due to the assault and as such, the deceased Nanao went to Leeman's residence to talk things over, the source continued.
However, the family members soon got news that Nanao had been stabbed by the accused some few meters away from his residence, using a sharp object and he was found lying in a pool of blood near a drain.
He was rushed to RIMS for treatment but the doctor on duty declared him brought dead, the source mentioned adding that the angry locals and family members stormed the house of accused and destroyed some household properties.
However, by then the accused Leeman had surrendered to Singjamei PS soon after the incident.
Timely intervention by police saved the house from being damaged further and the police used smoke bombs and mock bombs to control the angry mob and bring the situation under control.
A large number of police personnel were also deployed in the locality to prevent any further unwanted incidents.
On the other hand, a State forensic science team conducted inquest of the incident site and collected blood samples and other items from area.
Police also recovered a kitchen knife which the accused used to stab Nanao to death.
A case has been registered at Singjamei PS in connection with the incident.
