Imphal, August 26 2019:
The JAC formed in connection with the mysterious death of Chungamliu Riamei has demanded the State Government to hand over the case to the CBI.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, the JAC spokesperson Jianthui Panmei urged the authorities concerned to ensure that the police expedite the investigation of the case and submit a charge sheet at the earliest before handing it over to the CBI.
Alleging that the investigation being carried out by the State police is unsatisfactory, Jianthui Panmei said that further police custody remand of the husband of the deceased, his interrogation and collecting statements of the family members of the deceased are highly necessary.
On the other hand, the JAC spokesperson claimed that police fired tear gas shells and smoke bombs against the protesters demanding justice for the deceased, without any warning which resulted in the injury of several individuals.
Demanding the Government to take up necessary disciplinary actions against the police personnel involved, Jianthui Panmei warned that failure to do so on part of the authorities concerned will only invite agitation and stringent protests from the people and the JAC.
