Workshop on 'Propagation of Bamboo & its Utilization' held at Jiribam

A district level workshop on 'Propagation of Bamboo & its Utilization' organized by Jiribam Forest Division, Uchathol under the funding of National Bamboo Mission (NBM) was held at the conference hall of PWD Guest House, Babupara, Jiribam today.
The workshop was attended by Sagapam Shanti Devi, Chairperson Jiribam Municipal Council (JMC); Ch Ibomcha Singh, DFO Jiribam Forest Division; H Rajenkumar Singh, Honorary Wildlife Warden Jiribam; N Somorendro Singh, Asst State Mission Director, NBM Manipur as presidium members.
Speaking at the occasion, Sagapam Shanti Devi, Chairperson JMC said that today's workshop has a lot of significance for the people of Jiribam as it will uncover the importance of the mass-scale plantation of bamboo in Jiribam which is one of the source for Bamboo shoot widely consumed by the people of Manipur.
Ch Ibomcha Singh, DFO, Jiribam Forest Division said that the workshop was conducted to make the public of Jiribam aware about the importance and benefits of bamboo plantation adding that the forest department will extend all possible help to the farmers who want to engage in such initiative.
H Rajenkumar Singh, Honorary Wildlife Warden, Jiribam urged the public to plant more bamboo tree.
N Somorendro Singh, Asst State Mission Director, NBM, Manipur pointed out that Jiribam district is also one of the district of Manipur where bamboo plants are grown extensively.
He continued that bamboo products can replace lots of plastic products such as plastic chair, table and other items and for that to happen we have to plant bamboo on a massive scale which in turn will potentially enhance the economic condition of the district.
