Imphal, November 08 2014 :
After the godowns constructed inside the temporary market shed of Khwairamband Keithel were dismantled on November 2 by the Imphal Municipal Council in accordance to an order issued by the Imphal West DC, makeshift shops built by using polythene roofs as extensions from the temporary market shed were removed by City Police this evening.
As a police team arrived at the market complex to dismantle the makeshift structures/shops, they were resisted by some women vendors resulting in a brief altercation.
Later the two sides came to an understanding and the makeshift shops were dismantled voluntarily by the vendors/shopkeepers.
Nonetheless, another police team led by Imphal West Additional SP Birbabu kept a close vigil so as to avoid any untoward incident.
Aggrieved by the demolition drive, some women vendors demanded resignation of the IMC Chairperson and all Councillors.
