Kakching police ransacks mosque; Muslim bodies condemn

Muslim organisations of Sora in Thoubal district of Manipur have condemned Kakching Police Station officer-in charge B Rishikesh Sharma for purportedly beating up several women in the Sora area and firing a number of rounds in the air before rampaging on a mosque where his team also allegedly destroyed holy Quran books and a loudspeaker during the 48-hour Imphal-Moreh road blockade call given by the Yaithibi Loukon Land Owners' Association (YLLOA) .
A protest meeting attended by local club leaders, representatives of the YLLOA and Anjuman Nasrul Islam, Sora and other social organisations on Saturday condemned the incident and demanded the Manipur Government to take action against Kakching police officer-in-charge Rishikesh Sharma, said YLLOA president Md Alimuddin at a press meet.
The meeting which was held at Purani Masajid in Sora Awang Leikai under Kakching, where the incident took place, was presided over by Maulvi Riyajuddin, Sadar.
Md Alimuddin said officer-in-charge of Kakching police Rishikesh Sharma and his team called out all women and children from their homes during the 48-hour strike called by YLLOA and beaten them up before firing several rounds in the air.
He said the police team also entered the Masajid-E-Mohammadia and destroyed a number of holy Quran books besides the Waju Khana and a mike.
Md Alimuddin gave a warning to stage agitation over the unpleasant incident if appropriate action is not taken against the police team headed by Rishikesh Sharma by the state Government quickly.
The 48-hour Imphal-Moreh road section of National Highway-2 bandh was in protest against the Manipur Government's plan to set up a Central sports university at Yaithibi Loukon in Kakching.
