CorCom espouses co-existence

Imphal, January 02, 2013: Coordination Committee (CorCom) of seven rebel outfits namely; KCP, KYKL, PREPAK, PREPAK (Pro), RPF, UNLF and UPPK has strongly espoused peaceful coexistence and collective administration of the State by all communities A statement issued by CorCom media coordinator H Poirei asserted that indigenous communities need not part ways in spite of the repeated attempts to drive wedges among different communities by some elements in the form of bandhs and counter-bandhs.

Those evil elements working to create divisions in the society should be chastised and corrected in public.

Even as police remained mute spectators to the Chandel incident, local women mustered courage and intervened.

It was the duty of police to intervene and prevent any anti-social activity but they were trying to justify their inaction under cover of cease fire agreement.

"How many people were killed in the Naga-Kuki clash of 1992 just because Assam Rifles refused to intervene?", the outfit questioned.

People need to understand the reasons as well as motives behind the inaction of Assam Rifles as well as Manipur Police.

The recent public outrage against Livingstone's inhuman conduct could have been resolved without much hulla balloo had the relevant authority chastised him in time. Many similar incidents were resolved amicably due to timely intervention by way of rounding up the accused.

However, in the recent case involving Livingstone, the relevant authority acted blind and mute before coming out with provocative statements.

This only added fuel to the public outrage.

Again, sidelining the real picture of the incident, the public outcry was given a political overtone.

Given these sequence of events, one has every reason to ask whether Livingstone was incited by some elements or groups who wished to see a communal conflagration.

At one time, NSCN-IM was seen as a remarkable organisation by all revolutionary groups of the region.

Issac and Muivah were addressed most respectfully with the revered word of Oja (teacher).

They were viewed as the big brother or godfather by all revolutionary groups.

However, after they fell into the trap of the Government of India, the primary demand of Naga sovereignty has been scaled down to Sixth Schedule and then to autonomy of certain districts.

Such shameful defeat of the NSCN-IM's political agenda has seriously affected Naga integrity.

Many groups who are identified as Nagas now wish to leave the cognate family called Naga.

Some have gone to the extent of openly challenging the NSCN-IM leadership.

The present situation is such that NSCN-IM's revolutionary spirit has been already dampened and its leadership was waiting for an opportunity to build up emotional integrity by capitalising on one incident or another.

But it is not advisable to build up Naga integrity based on the foundation communal politics.

As witnessed in the after-math of 1992, attempts to build up Naga integrity through communal politics when many groups have already denounced the same strategy would certainly prove futile.

Floating renewed propaganda based on Parbung rape case after repeated clarifications and the Chandel outrage cannot spark any communal violence in Manipur.

The responsibilities and responses shown by womenfolk of Chandel and Napetpalli, Film Forum Manipur, Shumang Leela Council and civil society organisations clearly indicated their level of understanding and their tactfulness in handling such issues.

Rather than playing communal cards, peaceful coexistence would provide a far better environment for a life of dignify, CorCom asserted.

Degradation of NSCN-IM's demand to autonomous districts from Naga sovereignty is an unmistakeable manifestation of how NSCN-IM leadership betrayed the Naga people.

The heightened campaign to polarise people on communal line is one major aspect of NSCN-IM leadership's search for an alternative political agenda to replace their defeated political objective of Naga sovereignty.

Rather than playing such dirty communal games, CorCom would like to appeal to the Naga people and NSCN-IM to join the ongoing struggle and fight India collectively under a broad policy of co-existence and collective administration, it conveyed.

All the statements of Indian leaders smacked of evil intentions to disintegrate Manipur and Gaikhangam by hailing CorCom was only fooling himself.

Government of Manipur's declaration of Livingstone as a wanted man is meaningless exercise.

The State Government was only attempting to hoodwink the mass.

People of Western South East Asia who have similar physical features, culture and traditions are embroiled in internal conflicts and contradictions because of Government of India's divisive policies.

If one ponders for a while, he/she can certainly understand that people of the region are living like beasts of burden at the mercy of Gol.

Gol has been effectively employing the divide and rule policy as a strategy to suppress the people's legitimate liberation movement.

Given such sinister strategy of Gol, people of the region need unity to take on the common enemy collectively.

"Let's fight for sovereignty collectively and let's rule our land collectively", CorCom called out.
