Imphal, December 04 2022:
CAF & PD Minister Leishangthem Susindro Meitei has appealed to all civil society organisations (CSOs) and student associations to do away with the habit of banning Shumang Kumhei, films or music videos as the artists of the State have been playing a central role in the promotion of 'our culture' .
The Minister made the remark while attending the opening ceremony of the grand finale of the 9th State level Manipuri devotional and modern song competition organised by Artiste Training cum Educational Research Centre (ATEREC) at GM Hall, today.
Speaking as the chief guest of the function, Susindro continued that the artists of the State should instead be encouraged as they (the artists) have been promoting the culture of Manipur though they don't receive much aid from the Government.
He further stated that putting a ban on their work for certain problems or beliefs is harsh as artists earn for their families through the medium of art.
Saying that the Government could not provide much benefits to the artists other than taking up some welfare schemes, Susindro maintained that promotion of the artists needs collective efforts.
He lauded the organiser of the competition for providing a platform for the budding artists to showcase their talents.
In the grand finale of the competitions, altogether 20 budding artists gave their performance.
The prize distribution ceremony was also held today.
