CADA vs alcohol legalisation: Torch rally, sit-in protests continue

Imphal, December 04 2022:
In continuation of the Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol's (CADA) prolonged agitation against legalisation of alcohol in the State, a sit-in protest was held at Uripok under Imphal West district today.
The protest was organised by All Manipur Women Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj), The United Club & Library Uripok, Uripok Women's Association in collaboration with CADA.
The protestors also raised many slogans and demanded the Government to revoke alcohol legalisation.
Separately, a torch rally was staged yesterday night at Ningel under Thoubal district.
As per a statement, the torch rally was jointly organised by All Manipur Women Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj), The Thoubal District United Women's Development Organisation (Thoubal Ima), Mahila Mandal Society, Ningel and CADA.
The torch rally started around 7 pm and was flagged off from Ningel community hall, traversed through various localities of Ningel and culminated at the starting point again.
The participating protestors shouted many slogans expressing their dissent against the State Cabinet';s desicion to partially lift the prohibition on alcohol.
Similarly, another sit-in protest was satged yesterday at Lamlongei under Imphal West district.
The protest was jointly organised by All Manipur Women Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj), Lamlongei Chaokhat Thourang Nupi Lup and CADA.
Towards the end of the protest, the participants raised many slogans such as "Alcohol legalisation cannot be enforced in Manipur", "Revoke Cabinet decision" and "Save Manipuri people from alcohol abuse" .
