Man arrested with 416 gm brown sugar

Imphal, December 04 2022:
A team of Churachandpur police station arrested one Semkhogin Misao (44), son of Hemngam of Tuidam village in Churachandpur district for smuggling 416 gm of brown sugar hidden in 33 soap cases from the district's M Songgel village on Saturday.
According to police report, based on reliable information about transaction of drugs in M Songgel area, a team of the police station led jointly by its OC inspector N Thangzamuan and SI B Zairemthang along with women personnel rushed to M Songgel village around 4 pm and conducted surveillance and enquiries in the area.
Upon approaching the house of one Mary (35), wife of L Thangminlal Khongsai of DC Veng in M Songgel village, the team spotted the presence of an individual who was acting in a very suspicious manner.
Consequently, the police team conducted search of the house in the presence of SDM Churachandpur and M Songgel Village Authority members, during which one black bag containing some soap cases suspected to contain illicit drugs were found from the toilet located outside the house.
The bag was brought into the house and opened and found to contain 33 soap cases with brown sugar weighing 416 gm.
The contraband item was consequently seized in front of the SDM and M Songgel VA members and Semkhogin taken into custody.
On preliminary interrogation, Semkhogin Misao revealed that he had procured the brown sugar from one person from Myanmar at the price of Rs 7000 per soap case and hid it in the toilet of L Thangminlal Khongsai.
Subsequently, the accused was arrested and a case was registered at Churachandpur police station for further investigation.
