A 5-year- old boy from Wangoo Ahallup Makha Leikai under Wangoo GP in Kumbi, who suffered dog-bite some 3-4 months back, died on Saturday around 8pm.The kid named Monty Sanasam, was the youngest son of Sanasam Kabichandra Singh (36) and Thoi Devi of Wangoo Ahallup Makha Leikai.
Monty was studying in nursery class at Pathfinder School, Wangoo Ahallup Makha Leikai.
Kabichandra works as a mason, while Thoi is a housewife.
According to the family, Monty was bitten by two small dogs on separate occasions 3-4 months ago.
As he was young, he was not given the anti-rabies vaccine.
After few months of being bitten by the dogs, Monty suffered from severe thigh and low back pain while playing on November 13, before becoming paralysed.
He was taken to Moirang CHC for treatment and later brought back home after recovery.
He again became paralysed on November 16 night and was taken to Wangoo Laipham CHC immediately, before being taken to Imphal.
On the way to Imphal, Monty's condition deteriorated and was rushed to Bishnupur district Hospital, wherein he was given oxygen before being taken to Mother's Care Children Hospital & Research Centre, Sagolband in Imphal in an ambulance.
After his arrival at the Children Hospital, he was admitted to the Isolation Ward and put on a ventilator.
The consulting doctor, who was investigating the medical history, found out about the dog bite from Monty and that he was quite lively during the consultation.
Although there were no major changes, Monty experienced difficulty in swallowing water, refused to be covered with a blanket and was hydrophobic.
On November 29, a sample of Monty's blood was taken and sent to NIMHANS Hospital, Bangalore for testing.
The results came back on December 1 and the percentage of rabies virus in his blood was abnormally high, confirming that Monty was indeed infected by rabies.
