MLA Rajen assures recognition of MMA sports

MMA athlete Homeshwori Khaidem, who won a gold medal at the WMC East India Title Belt WMC India Ranking Series-9 held at Baishaki Sangha Kalighat, Kolkata, was felicitated at Lamdeng Awang Leikai community hall on Sunday.
Lamsang MLA S Rajen was chief guest of the felicitation programme jointly organised by VRO, RUCO and Lamdeng Mayai Leikai Youth Library Club.
While awarding Rs 10,000 to Homeshwori for her feat, MLA Rajen said that mixed martial arts is a very challenging sport as it requires strength and sharp mind.
Lauding Homeshwori on winning the top prize, Rajen also opined that constant support and encouragement by her parents were the main reasons for her achievement.
The MLA further said that even if the state depends on the centre for various needs, in sports and culture Manipur is a force to reckon with at the national as well as in the international platform as is evident from the state having several sportspersons of international repute.
While pointing out many from the state are donning the national colours in different sports disciplines, Rajen also opined that establishment of the National Sports University in Manipur is making significant contributions towards development of sports and sportspersons in the state.
He also assured to do the needful for official recognition of MMA in the state level.
The programme presided by VRO Club president A Tomba was attended by KMMAC 7C Len president RK Kaiku, MMA chairman Meiraba Ayam, RUCO president Kh Lokendro, MMA coach Frank Mangang and Chainaba chairman Ph Uma-kanta among others.
