IGSSS gives healing touch to flood affected families

The Indo-Global Social Service Society (IGSSS) in collaboration with Misereor and Christian Aid has responded to recent flood in Manipur triggered by heavy rain in Churachandpur, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Chandel districts.
IGSSS has been working to ensure that the affected families are provided with immediate relief in a timely manner and protect human dignity.
The response covered all the affected population regardless of caste or religion and the target population comprised of Kuki, Naga and Meitei communities.
Having its presence felt across 25 States and one UT of India, IGSSS works for development, capacity building and enlightenment of the vulnerable communities across the country for their effective participation in development, Thangboi Haokip, coordinator, IGSSS, Ccpur said.

IGSSS had convened the first ever NGOs/Civil society's coordination meeting on August 7, 2015 with representatives from 17 local, national and international NGOs participating in the meeting to chalk out a proper strategy to ensure that the benefits to flood affected victims reached them.
"This marked a new landmark in Manipur in paving the way for formation of IAG chapter in Manipur," Kaplianlal Thangluai, Assistant Manager-Program, IGSSS said.
IGSSS had distributed Rs 1000 each to 991 flood affected families and NFI items to many affected families.
The relief packages comprises of non-food items like- tarpaulin and rope, bed sheet, blankets; WASH and Dignity kits- plastic buckets with mug, washing and bathing soap, disinfectant liquid, sanitary napkins and monetary support (unconditional cash transfer) to meet their other immediate needs to 1000 HHs.
"IGSSS will conduct detailed livelihood assessment and extend conditional monetary support to revive their livelihood or repair of their damage houses to 400 most needy families," Kaplianlal said.
"In the second phase of our proposed intervention IGSSS will build the community capacity on Disaster Risk Reduction programme in Sangaikot block Churachandpur district with special focus on preparedness and building of resilient community and water sanitation and hygiene issues for the next six months," he added.
Through Christian Aid support programme in Thoubal and Chandel District, IGSSS had completed cash distribution of Rs 2500 each to 600 families (462 in Wangjing, Thoubal and 138 in Khengjoy block, Chandel District), said Thangboi Haokip.
"Besides monetary support, we distributed water filter, bucket of 20 litres capacity with lid and chlorination tablets to 462 families in Thoubal; shelter kits (tarpaulin, ropes, bed sheets) and to 138 families in Chandel district.
Besides another 60 most vulnerable families in Thoubal will be supported with conditional cash transfer to revive their livelihood and repair of houses," he said.
IGSSS also expressed thankfulness to the district administrations of Churachandpur, Chandel and Thoubal districts, Kuki Student Organization (KSO) Kuki Khanglai Lawmpi (KKL), Thadou-Kuki Students' Union (TKSU-GHQ), Haopi Chiefs' Association, Kuki Inpi Manipur for their support and cooperation.
It also acknowledged the cooperation extended by the Joint Philanthropic Organization in issuing 'Pass' for free passage of IGSSS staff and relief materials during strikes in Churachandpur district.
It further expressed gratitude to Misereor Germany and Christian Aid for their timely and goodwill gesture by extending financial and technical support in reaching out to the affected population.
