Imphal, June 09 2012:
Fifteen students from five hill districts of the state who scored highest marks in HSLC exam were felicitated by Information Centre for Hill Area, Manipur (ICHAM) during its annual award presentation function at Tribal Research Institute (TRI), Chingmeirong today.
The annual award presentation of ICHAM is being organised in memory of Nongthombam Thoithoi alias Bungcha, the departed son of ICHAM President N Rajendro.
Presided over by Veteran Journalist K Modhumangol, the function was graced by MLA of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa A/C RK Anand as Chief Guest and MLA of Chingai A/C MK Preshaw Shimray and Adhyaksha of Imphal East Bimola as Guests of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, RK Anand observed that even though felicitation of 15 meritorious students selected from five districts may outwardly look nothing extra-ordinary, it is a very significant event as such award presentation would help in restoring emotional integrity among hills and valley people.
MLA Preshaw Shimray, who is also the Chief Advisor of ICHAM, commented that along with strengthening the bond between hill and valley people, ICHAM's move to promote competitive spirit among the students of the hill districts is praiseworthy.
The educational aid and support which should have been provided to the departed son of President of ICHAM is being extended to the sons of the hills in their education.
This is a beautiful gesture from the side of Nongthombam family to the people of the hills, Preshaw said.
President of N Rajendro (Boy), President of ICHAM said that despite the pang of separation, his departed son has shown a way to minimize the gap and resolve misunderstanding among the hills and the valley people of Manipur.
He prayed to Almighty god for giving him enough strength to organise such functions every year.
In his Presidential address, K Modhumangol appreciated the initiatives and works of ICHAM.
Valley Rose, Editor of AZA also lauded the efforts of ICHAM and appealed to both the hill and valley people to co-operate and support each other.
