Imphal, June 09 2012:
The Director of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) has been accused of indulging in many anomalous practices and irregularities with regard to the proposed establishment of a dental college in RIMS.
According to sources, two Inspectors of the Dental Council of India (DCI) made a preliminary survey for the dental college at RIMS on June 2 .
DCI Inspectors AK Adhyapak and S Shaha submitted their report to DI Chairman Debendra Mazumdar on June 4 .
The report clearly stated that there was neither any infrastructure for the proposed dental college nor any plan to develop the necessary infrastructure.
On learning about the report, RIMS Director S Sekharjit and his wife Damayanti made a presentation to the DCI Chairman saying that the report of the Inspectors was biased.
Further, a photograph of the Khurana Lecture Hall constructed by the State Government beside Psychiatric Department and Gynae Department was shown to Chairman Mazumdar as a building for the proposed dental college.
Photograph of Damayanti's office room who is also Principal-in-charge of RIMS Nursing College was also presented as another physical infrastructure of the dental college.
Two years back, when Prof L Fimate was Director, photograph of the Nursing College was presented as another infrastructure of dental college.
It was reported that the proposed dental college had all the requisite physical infrastructure though it was lacking manpower.
In the meantime, the DCI Chairman has prepared a report which would be sent to the Union Health Ministry to process NOC and Letter of Permit for the proposed dental college.
At present, dental department of the institute is being run in a building which was earlier used as TB clinic, the sources added.
