Minister warns delinquent teachers

Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Ngamthang Haokip has strongly criticised misconduct of some Government school teachers posted in the hill areas, who draw salary from home while their replacements/substitutes carry out the task of educating the students.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of a training programme cum felicitation programme, Ngamthang Haokip advised such teachers to give up the presumption that their service could be taken for granted.
The minister conveyed the message while addressing participants at the one-day training programme on 'Right to Education: Responsibility of School Management Committee' organised by Deputy Inspector of School, Saitu-Gamphazol for CRE level community leaders and SMDC members at Saitu-Gamphazol community hall today.
A brief reception programme of the Minister was also held at the same venue.
Reminding that diligent service by the teachers will be one of the most vital factors for moulding the future generation of the society, Ngamthang expressed hope that the current trend of some teachers appointing their replacements with certain financial packages to the substitutes will be discarded sooner than later, in the interest of the students.
The Minister further warned that teachers posted in Saitu-Gamphazol area Government schools would be pulled up for exemplary punishment if and when they are found derelicting duties.
Highlighting to the gathering that the O ibobi Singh-led Congress Government is committed to ensure all-round development of the State with special emphasis on the development of the hill districts, the Minister said action plans are being worked out to develop both the Government schools and educational institutions functioning under the district councils.
Ngamthang further assured that all possible measures would be initiated for construction of school buildings in the hill areas, quarters for the teaching staff, ensure sufficient man-power and infrastructure development.
He also informed that a joint meeting of all the MLAs from Senapati district, including the three MLAs of Sadar hills, would be held on June 12 where the focus would be on ways and means for development of the education sector in the hill districts.
The issue regarding building construction of schools under district councils and staff quarters of the teachers would also feature prominently at the said meeting, he maintained.
Exhorting every section of the society to rise above parochial outlook and community-based politics, the Minister also reminded that all-round development would be a possibility only when there is peace and conducive environment in Manipur.
With reference to the re-construction of the Deputy Inspector of School, Saitu-Gamphazol's building nearing completion, Ngamthang assured provision of furniture and other requisite infrastructure at the earliest.
The DI office building was damaged/burnt during the agitation on the issue of Sadar Hills district demand.
DI of School Seikholet Singsit also intimated to the Minister on the DI office currently functioning from a leased building and shortage of furniture being faced by the staff members.
Among others the training programme cum felicitation event was also attended by Saitu-Gamphazol SDC Upendra.
