New Delhi, June 09 2012:
Even as the release of the democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi and her subsequent landslide victory in the recently held midterm polls hit the headlines and drew attention of global leaders including Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who visited Myanmar recently, ethnic states such as Kachin state continues to face military harassments.
About a hundred or so Kachin refugees living in Delhi took out a protest today in an appeal to end 'humanitarian crisis' in Kachin state, wherein the Tamadaw army personnel reportedly went on the rampage by burning down villages and raping women.
This also led to displacement of people and forced labour.
In a memorandum submitted to Thein Sein, President of Myanmar, Ban Ki-moon and Thiomas Ojea, special Rapporteurs on Human Rights in Burma, the Kachin people stated that the previous 17 years of ceasefire between the government and the rebel groups is a fragile peace, that has failed to solve any problem.

The memorandum stated that a political solution is needed to end the problem of the Kachin states, who were not treated as equal citizens.
One of the participant in today's demonstration said that military operation continues even after the President ordered for a halt.
The protest was held by Burmese exiles in several countries demanding immediate end to the attacks against Kachin people, for protection of civilians and initiate a dialogue with the Kachin Independence organizations among others such as rehabilitation and aids.
