Imphal, June 09 2012:
The Indian Nursing Council (INC) has categorically stated that no one working in medical faculty can be given the post of Principal-in-charge for Nursing College.
The INC made this statement in response to an RTI application which sought clarification on whether Dr N Damayanti who is a Professor in Anatomy Department can be appointed as the Principal-in-charge of RIMS Nursing College.
Following the INC's clarification and with regard to another matter related to recruitment in RIMS, another complaint was filed at the High Court.
After hearing the complaint, Justice T Nandakumar Singh issued a ruling on June 5 which suspended recruitment of nursing tutors and prohibited any manipulation in the date of issuing recruitment order for the same.
A writ petition filed by one of the tutors appointed during the period of RIMS Director Sekharjit's predecessor raised several allegations that the suspensions and terminations of several earlier appointed nursing staff were believed to have occurred after Dr N Damayanti was made the Principal-in-charge of the Nursing College.
Further, allegations of the earlier appointed teaching staff include discrimination by way of not providing any teaching assignment, removing from any work allotted to them earlier, segregating and not allowing them to participate in any college meetings or functions.
