Father, son hurt in police atrocities

Imphal, June 09 2012:
A father and his son have been hospitalised after they were severely beaten up allegedly by OC in-charge of Khongjom Police Outpost Bidyanandi in front of three woman-complainants yesterday morning.
The incident occurred took place at around 10 am at Khongjom Sapam Mamang Leikai.
The injured father is identified as Sapam Babu (65)s/o Nillachandra and the son as Brojendro (37).They sustained injuries on their backs, waists, hips, hands and calfs.
Speaking to reporters in a press meet at Manipur Press Club here today, injured Babu recounted that he scolded some children, who were swimming in their local public pond which is used for drinking purposes at around 9 am yesterday.
He never beat the children and told them not to swim in public pond again.
After the children have been sent home, Thingbaijam Rameshwari (25) w/o Maipak and Moirangthem Basanti (27)w/o Jiban, mothers of two of the children, came and confronted him saying it was none of his business to scold and beat their kids, Babu informed, adding that he came home after a brief arguments with the two women.
However, sometime later, some police personnel came to his house and took him and his ailing son Brojendro to Khongjom Police outpost.
Upon reaching there, they found the two women along with a Ward member, Sapam Ranjita (27).The OC in-charge Bidyanandi Sharma asked him for whom he voted for in the recent Assembly elections.
Upon telling that he voted for Hemanta, the OC in-charge started beating him and his son black and blue in front of the three women, Babu alleged.
Condemning the police action, Babu said that it is a case of discriminating the poor and weak and demanded higher officials to investigate into the matter for taking up appropriate actions against the police officer.
Bimola, one Meira Paibi of Khongjom Circle, who was also present in press meet, demanded sacking of the OC in-charge.
She also appealed to the Home Minister for justice to the poor father and his son.
