Senapati College hosts International workshop on Indigenous Education

A one-day International Workshop on "Value Based Education: Indigenous Education in Global Space of Transformation" was organized by Mount Everest College at its premises at Senapati today.
Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, Prof HNK Sharma, Vice Chancellor of Manipur University, said that in order to bring about development in our society, quality education needs to be imparted to the students.
He stated that the elements of a value-based education can be found not only in the subject matter, but in the learning styles being adopted, scheduling of the classrooms, extracurricular activities and parental involvement.
The value based education is, therefore, being given stress so as to ensure fullest possible development of body, mind and heart which ultimately contributes to the growth of both internal and external personality of the students.

He further pointed out that education is the vehicle of Knowledge, self preservation and success.

A number of crime related cases is on the rise in the state and at the same time the number of HIV and AIDs cases in the state is increasing, thus creating a chaotic state of affairs.
The present situation could sweep the students towards unwanted path.
So, there is also the need to impart moral education to the students, observed Prof HNK Sharma.
The workshop was moderated by Yaruingam Awangshi, HOD, Department of African Studies, Delhi University.
Bhoumik, Director, Sparch Foundation Kolkatta; Anbarsan, Associate Prof, Tezpur University of Mass Media and Communition; Tohring, Post Doctoral Fellow of Tribal Research Institute and Tomba, Principal, Mount Everest Higher Secondary School were also present on the occasion.
Prior to the commencement of the workshop, students of the school who topped in Class XII examination and those who got letter marks in Class X examination as well as the teachers were felicitated.
The Best Lecturer Award 2012 and other cash awards were distributed by MLA Alexander Pao and Prof HNK Sharma.
