Imphal, September 30 2021:
The Impa Lui Organisation (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) has written to the Chief Minister stating its objection to suspend of DC and SP of Tamenglong district as demanded by JAC Against Committee against the brutal murder of Athuan Abonmai.
The organisation, in its letter to the Chief Minister, vehemently condemned unfortunate abduction and subsequent murder of Athuan Abonmai, former President of Zeliangrong Baudi on September 22 last in Tamenglong district.
It also appreciated the CM for his effort and discernment in handling the fragile situation with utmost concern in pursuit of justice for the departed soul and for taking the burden himself by apologizing on live press conference.
It also noted that more than a dozen of police personnel have been suspended, the case will be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the bereaved family has been assured of ex-gratia and suitable govt job to one of them.
However, there is an unjustified point in the charter of demands by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) in which they have demanded suspension of DC and SP, it said while adding that it sees no merit for the State Government to act upon just only to appease the JAC without bringing justice.
It further noted that the unfortunate incident occurred amidst tight security and sought intervention of the CM so that the DC and SP are not made the scapegoats just only to appease the JAC.
Suspension of innocent officers without valid reason will defeat the purpose of seeking truth and justice which are enshrined in the constitution of India, it added.
