The Joint Action Committee Against the Brutal Murder of Athuan Abonmai has informed that the 24 hours Statewide total shutdown which was deferred earlier, will come into effect from the midnight of October 3 till October 4 .
In a statement issued today, the JAC said their representatives have met the Chief Minister twice and submitted their charter of demands and conveyed their position to the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister reportedly assured the JAC of appropriate actions against anyone involved in the brutal killing of Athuan Abonmai on September 22 .
However, the Government has failed to take up any satisfactory and appropriate action till date, added the statement.
The JAC also questioned why the Government was so reluctant to tackle the matter despite the assurance they had given to the representatives of the JAC.
The JAC alleged that the nature of the crime committed amidst the official programme is a clear indication of the incompetence, ineffectiveness and irresponsibility of the State Government and demanded immediate resignation of the Chief Minister on moral groundwho is also in-charge of Home Department.
The JAC also appealed to all the CSO, individuals and local organisations irrespective of caste and creed to stand firm in condemning the gruesome and merciless murder of Athuan Abonmai and in seeking justice to the late Zeliangrong Baudi leader.
It is noteworthy to remember that Athuan Abonmai, former president of Zeliangrong Baudi, was abducted and murdered by some unidentified gunmen on September 22 in Tamenglong.
