Fake notes of demonetised currency seized

Imphal, September 30 2021:
Thoubal district police on Thursday seized a large cache of fake Indian currency notes of now-demonetised Rs 1000 denomination from a hut in Keirao Wangkhem area, SP Thoubal Jogeshchandra Haobijam said.
Addressing a press conference in this regard, Jogeshchandra informed that based on a special tip off, a joint police team of Thoubal District Police led by him and assisted by additional SP (Ops) Sachidananda Soibam, Commando OC inspector N Tikendra Meetei, jemadar Md Amin Khan and havaldar Th Kiran Singh of Commando Thoubal conducted a search operation in Keirao Wangkhem area after informing the Control Room of Imphal East District Police.
During the search operation, the team encountered a suspicious looking locked hut at Keirao Khuman Lok owned by one Chungkham Dewan Singh (50), son of Ch Jugindro Singh of Keirao Wangkhem, Ngarian Chingkhong Leikai, Imphal East district.
During spot interrogation, he disclosed that some manufactured fake Indian currency notes of Rs 1000 were hidden inside his hut and he produced the fake notes by opening the lock of the hut, the SP narrated.
The police officer continued that on further questioning, Dewan revealed that the packing and binding of fake Indian currency notes were done by him along with one Chingakham Surchandra Singh (40), son of Ch Deben Singh of Keirao Wangkhem, Ngarian Chingkhong Leikai.
Consequently, the police team took both of them into custody and seized the fake Indian currency notes.
Further, they disclosed that the fake notes were brought by one Tony of Keirao along with his nephew Arun of Waithou Thiyam Khunjao and handed over to them, the SP mentioned, while adding that the arrested people along with the seized items have been handed over to Irilbung police station for further investigation.
